Local Host

AFRINIC is proud to partner with the Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) South Africa as our official Local Host for the AFRINIC-38 Public Policy Meeting in Cape Town.

About ISPA South Africa

Established in 1996, the Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) is a recognised South African Internet industry representative body and non-profit company (NPC). For nearly three decades, ISPA has played an active and constructive role in facilitating communication and exchange between independent Internet service providers, network operators, government structures, and the national telecommunications regulator, ICASA (the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa).

ISPA advocates for open, competitive and fair Internet policy, regulatory modernisation, digital skills development, consumer protection, and cyber safety. Through its recognized Code of Conduct, ISPA holds its members to high ethical standards and provides an established mediation and complaints resolution mechanism for South African consumers.

Pioneering Internet Exchange Points

In addition to regulatory and policy advocacy, ISPA historically pioneered the establishment of South Africa’s first community-run Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) through INX-ZA, operating critical exchange infrastructure including JINX (Johannesburg), CINX (Cape Town), and DINX (Durban). This initiative has been instrumental in keeping African Internet traffic local, reducing latency, and lowering the cost of access across Southern Africa.

Welcoming the African Community to Cape Town

As the Local Host for AFRINIC-38, ISPA South Africa supports AFRINIC in bringing together network engineers, operators, policy makers, civil society, and academics at the Hyatt Regency Cape Town. ISPA shares AFRINIC's commitment to open, bottom-up Internet governance and the sustainable development of Africa’s digital ecosystem.
