Aerial view of Cape Town with Table Mountain, Lion's Head and the Cape Town Stadium on the Atlantic shore

AFRINIC-38 takes place on Wednesday 18 November 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa. Delegates travelling to attend in person must secure their own entry clearance.

Start early. Visa applications to South Africa can take several weeks.

Check whether you need a visa

South Africa exempts the nationals of several countries from visa requirements for short visits, with permitted stays of 30 or 90 days depending on nationality and passport type. Exemptions differ by passport category: a country may be exempt for diplomatic and official passports but not for ordinary ones.

Check your nationality and your passport type against the official list published by the South African Department of Home Affairs.

You may start your application on the VFS Global website.

If your visa application needs an invitation letter, request one on the AFRINIC-38 invitation letter form.

Health requirements

Yellow fever certificate

South Africa requires a valid International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis — the yellow card — from every traveller aged one year and over who:

  • is arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission, or
  • has been in transit for more than 12 hours through an airport in a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission.
